Cloud-Based Financial Management Software

I never thought I would be in love with cloud-based financial management software. I spent several weeks reviewing Sage Intacct. Intacct is superior to any I have used in 20 years. It doesn’t make you feel like you’re stuck in somebody else’s head. It has flexible workflows, excellent functionality and it’s responsive. It’s designed to integrate with banks, web stores, Salesforce and there are many options for specific business requirements. The best part is the wealth of information it provides. Members of the C suite can have real-time indicators, graphs and results of their choosing continuously updated and displayed on their screen.

I like Intacct’s approach. Transactions can be tagged with one or more dimensions. A dimension is sort of like a hashtag except they are things like location or customer. If you subscribe to a module like project, that dimension becomes available. This eliminates the need for multiple revenue and expense accounts for each location and department combination, while significantly enhancing your ability to analyze results. This is huge.

Intuitive Design

When the first web applications came out 10 years ago, I didn’t like them. A lot has changed since then. Cloud apps are much more intuitive than they used to be, and better looking. Faster internet, large monitors, dynamic content contribute to the experience. As soon as you start typing the app is providing suggestions. I think we are all much more accustomed to using a web browser.

Superior Information

In my opinion the strength of any system is in the accessibility of the data it produces. Intacct lets you choose graphs or reports that displays whenever you sign on. They provide a simple process for configuring a graph or report and linking it to the user dashboard. Select from stock items or create your own. I easily created cash on hand and sales volume dashboard tiles that update automatically. Building a report is easy using the wizard. It walks you through selection the number of columns, data and level of detail. Within a couple of minutes you have a report designed exactly how you want it. For historical comparison, you only need set the date.

Platform Independent

Platform independence enables you to use both Windows and Mac computers, tablets and smart phones. Cloud software senses the screen size to better present the information. This allows managers to approve requests while away from their desk. Naturally there are controls to maintain security and privacy so that only trusted individuals and devices have the option.

Ensuring Accuracy

I’m sure you agree that real-time recording of transactions is desirable. Customers want prompt billings. Department managers have budgets, but what about mistakes? Most systems provide you with a combination of methods you can enable. These include role based permissions, transaction definitions, manager approvals and AI to help minimize errors.

Integration

Cloud ERP systems allow source information to be retained allowing drill down through each stage of a transaction. Sage Intacct allows you to link a employee to their Sales Force login. Microsoft Dynamics 365 has an integrated CRM. This saves time and facilitates customer service. HTML reports contain links for drill down to the source which may be a file attachment stored in the system.
