Without a budget you have no easy way to see if you or your organization are going to meet their financial goals. Budgets don’t have to be carved in stone. New contracts, staff, rate increases are a reality of life. There are a few different ways to establish a budget. Some people just add a percentage for inflation to last years numbers. That doesn’t work if you are growing and acquiring new customers/contracts, must hire new employees and perhaps expand your office space. The point I am making is that your budget does not have to be perfect. You can look at your progress each quarter, compare it to the budget, and decide if an intervention is required, or the budget needs revising. By doing this you will be way ahead of those that don’t.
